| GOVERNMENT HIGHLIGHTS
ANSI -ISO VTAG The U.S. Department of Commerce is endorsing the ANSI-ISO private enterprise effort to initially establish guidelines, and subsequently standards, for the global second hand goods market. The mission of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is "to enhance both the global competitiveness of U.S. business and the U.S. quality of life by promoting and facilitating voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems, and safeguarding their integrity." ANSI is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization. The mission of the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) is "to promote the development of standardization and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international exchange of goods and services, and to develop cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity." Gary Alexander (AMC Intl. LLC) is representing the semiconductor / electronics manufacturing industry as a member of the ANSI-ISO Virtual Technology Advisory Group (VTAG) that is laying the ground work for the second hand goods initiative. Latest News On August 15, 2008, ANSI convened a teleconference to assess the status of the VTAG's desire to form a formal TAG. Participating VTAG members had until October 31, 2008 to secure a sponsorship commitment from their respective organizations. To date, no further action has been taken. For more information on the ANSI-ISO, "3R's" and "REMAN" initiatives, contact Gary Alexander at gary@amcintl.com. United States Department of Commerce The U.S. Department of Commerce's efforts on behalf of the G8 3R's and REMAN Initiatives that grew out of the G8 Sea Island (Georgia) Summit in June 2004 have been placed on indefinite hold. Much of the activity of participating companies has transferred the ANSI-ISO VTAG Initiatives. There was still much work to be done plus many opportunities and challenges to be addressed. If an outcome is to be objective and relevant to all industries and their various segments, it is important that knowledgeable representatives from all industries ecumenically participate in this effort. As the Executive Director of SEC/N and the President of AMC International, Gary Alexander actively participated in these initiatives from 2004 -2007.
